Regina v Hawkes; Attorney General’s reference No 68 of 2007: CACD 22 Oct 2007

The defendants had been convicted of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs. The AG appealed the sentences as too lenient.
Held: The appeals were successful. The court had not taken sufficient account of the fact that the defendants were armed. The carrying of arms should normally lead to a substantial increase in the sentence, implemented by the use of consecutive sentences.
