Addis vBurrows: CA 1948

The landlord served notice to quit to end a tenancy from year to year ‘until the tenancy be determined at the end of the first or any subsequent year by one of the parties giving to the other of them six calendar months previous notice in writing.’ The tenancy was expressed to start in January and end in June. The notice terminated the tenancy ‘at the expiration of the year of your tenancy, which will expire next after the end of one half year from the service of this notice.’
Held: The tenancy was for eighteen months and thereafter from year to year. The notice was not too vague and was effective.
