Regina v Buckley: CACD 17 Aug 1999

The appellant challenged a sentence of 12 months’ detention in a young offender institution, for inflicting grievous bodily harm. Of previous good character, he had head-butted the complainant who had earlier himself assaulted a girl.
Held: Anyone who head butts another must expect to be deprived of his liberty. The sentence was appropriate, but would have serious consequences for the education of the appellant, and a sentence of 6 months was substituted.
