Police Service of Northern Ireland (Decision Notice): ICO 21 Nov 2011

The complainant requested guidance on what information can be given to the victims of crime. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (the PSNI) refused to comply with the request, arguing that it was vexatious under section 14(1) of the Act. The Commissioner’s decision is that the PSNI wrongly assessed the complainant’s request as vexatious. The Commissioner requires the public authority to respond to the request, either by providing the requested information or by issuing a refusal notice under section 17 of the Act.
