Appeal against an order giving judgment for the respondent against the appellant, the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in the sum of pounds 125,000 by way of damages (including both aggravated and exemplary damages) for false imprisonment. Held: The appeal was allowed: ‘ the Judge’s reasoning is profoundly unsatisfactory and unfair and does not come close to justifying the factual findings that he made.’
