Elections - From: 1930 To: 1959This page lists 1 cases, and was prepared on 21 May 2019. Regina v Tronoh Mines Ltd [1952] 1 All ER 697 1952 McNair J Elections (Central Criminal Court) The defendant, while a general election was pending, published in a national newspaper an advertisement attacking the financial policy of the outgoing Labour government. Held: The interpretion of laws restricting expenditure and 'promoting the election of a candidate' are inapplicable to advertising promoting or denigrating parties generally. Section 63 was not intended to prohibit expenditure incurred on advertisements designed to support the interest of a particular party generally in all constituencies, at any rate at the time of a general election and not supporting a particular candidate in a particular constituency.
